If you see a preferred device option like this
above your list of Sametime contacts, you can make and receive calls using a telephone, directly from your Sametime contact list. The person you are calling will also use their telephone for the call. If you do not see a preferred device, calls automatically go through your computer and you will not be able to use the Sametime
® client to make a telephone call.
This feature is only available if your organization has a IBM
Standard or Advanced software license and additional third-party telephony capabilities integrated into Sametime
In the Find a person or number
field above your list of Sametime contacts, type the name or the entire telephone number of the person you want to call.

- If you typed a name, click Search directories for at the bottom of the list that shows to find the name you want. When you find the name of the person you want to call, right-click the name and then click Call.
- If you typed a telephone number, when you find the number you want to call, click Call Number.
