Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7 is now available on the portal solutions catalog: Content Template Catalog 3.0

This is the official thread for questions, issues, etc. so watch this space - when the catalog page is live, a link will be posted here.

Content Template Catalog v3 (CTC3) is a complete toolkit for rapid development of IBM Web Content Manager sites on WebSphere Portal.
It's also a prescriptive approach to how to get the best out of these products.

CTC3 features a new templating model, a comprehensive set of templates and pre-configured portlets, and a content-oriented theme and layouts.
Build a new area in a site in 30 seconds, with all of the necessary pages, portlets, site areas, content and components, set up and ready for editing.
Use the pallete of pre-configured portlets to drop re-usable components on your pages for navigation, teasers, slideshows, carousels, etc.

The templating pattern in CTC3 also supports the creation of your own templates - a page created from a template can be modified and then turned it into a new template.
Build up you own custom template library and provide a self-service site development offering to your users.

Documentation for CTC3 is on the WebSphere Portal Family wiki at IBM Content Template Catalog V3.0 User Guide

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi,
I am in the process of installing the new Content Template Catalog on WebSphere Portal v7.0.0.1 (CF008) on Windows 7 Enterprise. When I run the ctc-install batch file - I get the following error message and CTC-DEMO install fails. Any thoughts on why?

Here are some more logs from the SystemOut.log. I removed some more of the stacktrace to keep the message shorter. Hope you can help soon.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Shyam,

Could you please try deleting the CTC Demo Library through the administration console, and running the install again. It's possible that the library has got into a bad state, causing the install to fail.

Regards,

Chris Berry.

As you mentioned in the previous post to delete the demo library from console for the same kind of error I did that and tried again but still I face the error. After deleting the library from the console I see the following in systemout.log

Can someone please reply...

I have set the option CTC_DEMO=false since it showed error while insatlling the CTC DEMO. It then installed successfully. But the demo pages were not installed.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I installed everything fine on the 'main' portal. I then created a virtual portal ctc and went through the steps to add the Page Templates:
changed the components.properties file
wp.ctc false
wp.ctc.theme false
wp.ctc.design false
wp.ctc.demo false
wp.ctc.templates true

ran update-paa-compnent -DappName=wp.ctc - completed successful
ran deploy-paa -DappName=wp.ctc -DvirtualPortalHostName=hqrt75.corp.fin -DvirtualPortalContext=/ctc - completed successful
stop, started portal. When I goto the virtural portal hqrt75.corp.fin/wps/portal/ctc and go to the Administration page the page templates are not listed.

should I be using a different virtualPortalContext?

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Curti

You've hit an error in our documentation that I was just about to post a correction for - I'll post a corrected user guide on the CTC3 wiki page shortly.

The command to deploy to a virtual portal is case sensitive, and the user guide erroneously had "-DvirtualPortalHostName" when it should have " -DVirtualPortalHostName" - note the capital "V" - and "-DvirtualPortalContext" should be " -DVirtualPortalContext"
Also the virtual portal context should not have a "slash" in front of it.

Try this instead:
deploy-paa -DappName=wp.ctc -DVirtualPortalHostName=hqrt75.corp.fin -DVirtualPortalContext=ctc

Cheers,
Mark

Could you please post the exception you see when importing the demo in <Portal Root>/wp_profile/logs/WebSphere_Portal/SystemOut.log? You should be able to find it quickly by searching for "Import of one or more files failed".

We need to see what item is causing the error, and whether it's a deleted item like in the previous post. Luckily since the base has installed successfully, once we have a fix for this you should be able to install just the demo.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Prasanthi,

From your original post, it's not clear whether the library delete of CTC Demo succeeded or failed. The error is the same as the one posted previously, so it should not occur if the library does not exist.

It also looks like the import was 99% complete when it failed importing some system information. This means that the content should all be there.

To get the demo running, you should just need to deploy the demo pages. This can be done by running the following:

ConfigEngine.bat action-install-xmlaccess-applySIFeaturePack-components/wp.ctc.demo

I will raise this issue with the CTC Demo import internally and roll in the fix into a future CTC Maintenance release.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Thanks Mark for the update on the Virtual portal install.
Now I have a new issue. I have noticed the path for objects, such as Landing Navigation is CTC Design/Block Components/Landing Navigation. Normally in WCM the path would be CTC Design/components/Landing Navigation. As a result I can not see any of the object 'Trees" that are not standard WCM 7. I do not see /Block Components. The only way I can edit the component is to either Search or find a piece of content that has the component associated and click on the link to edit.

Hi Chris,

I am now able to install the CTC Demo too. I deleted the Demo library from the console and ran the command ctc-install.bat then it got successfully installed and I am able to see the Demo pages on the portal site. I executed the command
ConfigEngine.bat action-install-xmlaccess-applySIFeaturePack-components/wp.ctc.demo to deploy the pages and it showed me the following error

HI Curti,

Are you able to use the templates and have you run the Menber Fixer Task after installing the CTC as I mentioned in my previous post.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Curti

Using folders for components is supported in the standard 7.0 UI.... this is not specific to CTC... so you should not be having trouble locating components in folders.

If you have added the "CTC Design" library to the WCM authoring portlet, then navigate to that library, and click on "Components", and then you should see the folders.

One thing to watch out for is that you don't filter the view - if you filter the view to a single component type, you wont see the folders... so remove any filtering on the components view if you have turned it on.

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Prasanthi

On the failure with the member fixer, I think we've caught you out there with a documentation issue.

The command you pasted in below looks alright in the user guide, but when I paste it into a text editor, the quotes are wrong.
So I think that might be what is causing this error:
Failed to complete: com.aptrix.pluto.InitialisationException: Specified library does not exist: ƒ??CTC

Try this instead... same command, just replaced the quotes:
run-wcm-admin-task-member-fixer -Dfix=true -Dlibrary="CTC Content" -DinvalidDn=update -DaltDn=update

We can test this as well tomorrow, but if you have a chance to try in the meantime, please let us know if this resolved your issue.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I ran the member fixer task using the command

ConfigEngine run-wcm-admin-task-member-fixer -Dfix=true -Dlibrary="CTC Content" -DinvalidDn=update -DaltDn=update it was then successful. It was unsuccessful previously due to the quotes as you mentioned.

Thanks

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I've just installed CTCv3 on Portal 7.0.0.1 with CF08 installed. All went well, and the install of both Portal Solution Installer and CF08 worked.

However, I'm not getting this error when I hit the CTC Demo page:

[11/8/11 2:00:09:224 EST] 0000004d webapp E com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.webapp.WebApp logServletError SRVE0293E: [Servlet Error]-[/jsp/HomeLink.jsp]: com.ibm.ws.jsp.JspCoreException: JSPG0047E: Unable to locate tag library for uri http://www.ibm.com/xmlns/prod/websphere/portal/v7.0/portal-core

    at com.ibm.ws.jsp.translator.visitor.JspVisitor.visit(JspVisitor.java:216)
....

Has anyone else experienced this? A tag library missing seems like rather a fundamental error, so I'm not sure what is wrong. I don't know what jar the portal-core v7 tag library is in, so I can't even ensure it is in the path.

Thoughts anyone, as to what might have gone wrong?

Thanks in Advance.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Just an update on my post above - installing CF09 (https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24029452) seems to have "magically" fixed the issue above. Not sure what was wrong.

But, now I find clicking on the "Blog" link causes a DB transaction to time out, and a hung webcontainer thread as a result:

Hi all,

Please let me know if anyone has used your own templates or images to create a website using CTC 3.0 instead of using the default templates.

Thanks

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Corey

I have not seen the original error you had, and while I'm glad installing CF9 fixed it, I'd still like to know what was wrong.. I'll do some investigations on it.

Your second post says that the Blog page fails to load due to a timeout... is this unique to the blog page? or are all of the "index" pages failing? (e.g. design track, development track, sponsors, etc.)

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Prasanthi

This is not quite a direct answer to your question, but you can find many many sites built with IBM Web Content Manager and Websphere Portal if you are interested in looking at what is possible.
Try searching for sites with "wps/wcm" or "wps/portal" in their paths, and you will find a lot of sites.

The reason I'm referring you to these sites is partly because CTC3 has not been out in the field long enough for anyone to have published a site using it, but mainly it's because CTC3 is not a product - it is simply patterns applied on top of WCM and Portal, plus some additional templating features that allow you to build sites more quickly.

The site patterns and the templating features do not limit the base product capabilities in any way, so you can build any website you want based on CTC3.
So the sites you can already find out there built on WCM are perfectly good examples of what you could build with CTC3.

The goal of CTC3 is to accelerate site development by supplying pre-built assets and patterns, and also to introduce a pattern for delivering self-service templated solutions to your customers.
You must still be well versed with how to use the underlying infrastructure of WCM and Portal to be able to modify the templates and build a site.

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Phillip,

That error usually occurs when the si-setup task has not been run during the Solution Installer install. The instructions for this task are after the main install instructions.

To run the task you need to go to the ConfigEngine directory and run:

ConfigEngine si-setup

Hope this helps,

Chris.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Trying to install in Windows 7 64-bit fails with this error for me:

C:\IBM\WebSphere\PortalServer\SolutionInstaller\components\SolutionInstaller\config\includes\si-install-tasks.xml:265: Unable to determine paa offering directory location. Verify that the offering directory for paa files exists.

This comes after I set the PROFILE_DIR in ctc.properties. I run ctc-install.bat in an Administrator PowerShell and get the above error message.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I had the same problems as Sarah and Phil; after much digging around and clobbering together help, these install steps include some things left out of the official install steps:
- Update admin passwords in C:\IBM\WebSphere\wp_profile\ConfigEngine\properties\wkplc.properties (including PortalAdminPwd)
- From an admin command line (right click, run as administrator), run C:\IBM\WebSphere\wp_profile\ConfigEngine\ConfigEngine.bat si-setup
- Extract CTCInstall.zip on the server where you wish install CTC
- Edit the ctc.properties file to match the configuration of your environment
- Create folder <Websphere_dir>/paa (ie: C:\IBM\WebSphere\paa) You don't need to do this if you run si-setup
- Run the installation scripts:
- Windows: run ctc-install.bat from the admin level command line (right click, run as administrator)
- Unix/Linux: run ./ctc-install.sh from the command line
- When the script finishes successfully, CTC should now be installed on your
server. Before using CTC, please restart the server so that features required by
  CTC are enabled.
- Run the member fixer task run-wcm-admin-task-member-fixer":
- Windows: ConfigEngine.bat run-wcm-admin-task-member-fixer -Dfix=true -Dlibrary="CTC Content" -DinvalidDn=update -DaltDn=update
- Linux/AIX: ./ConfigEngine.sh run-wcm-admin-task-member-fixer -Dfix=true -Dlibrary="CTC Content" -DinvalidDn=update -DaltDn=update

It turns out my installation problems were caused because I didn't have the correct edition of Portal installed. After uninstalling and reinstalling with the WCM version of Portal 7, I was able to successfully install CTC3.

Following Phil Denton's instructions, I now get the following error:

When running deploy-paa, it throws the following error when it tries to deploy the wp.ctc.templates. Right before it fails on this, it seems to deploy the wp.ctc.theme without issue. I think but cannot verify that the install-paa and update-paa-components steps completed successfully. When running deploy-paa, it throws the following error when it tries to deploy the wp.ctc.templates. Right before it fails on this, it seems to deploy the wp.ctc.theme without issue. It took me many attempts before getting this far, is it possible it's not fully installed on the server? Thanks

How do I remove the Portal toolbar from a CTC-based site?
I've just started trying to customise the theme for a new site using the CTC.
It's to be a public website and most users will be anonymous, though it may eventually have features for logged in users.

We want to remove the Portal toolbar from the HTML for anonymous users - that is everything inside <div class="contentToolbar" role="banner">.
I've searched all files in the CTC theme and can't find that div anywhere, so how do we modify it?

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Phillip, Sarah,

The problem you are seeing occurs on portal servers that are not Content installs (i.e. include Web Content Manager). Web Content Manager is required for CTC 3 to function as CTC is built on both Portal and WCM. We did not explicitly state this in the user guide, but will be adding it to the list of prerequisites to ensure this issue does not occur in the future.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Sarah,

If you could post the content of your failure log, and the a bit more of the output from the install task it will help to work out where the install is going wrong.

Thanks,

Chris.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi Mark,
I'm also getting similar errors on the failure log. I'm installing on Red Hat with Portal 7.0.0.2 installed. I don't see anything in SystemOut.log. I had run the ConfigEngine task to configure solution installer. Here's the info from the failure log:

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I was wondering if it's possible to setup syndication for CTC libraries. I am creating a site using CTC3 templates.. and would like to have it syndicated on another server. How can I do this? Can I simply install the CTC3 templates on both servers, then delete all the CTC libraries on the subscribers and setup a syndication with all the CTC libraries and choose to syndicate 'All Items'?

Thanks in advance!

Some fix updates break Content Template Catalog v3 installed on WCM V7.0.0.1

For details, be sure to see the technote "IBM Content Template Catalog V3.0 (CTC) is broken after upgrade to WP/WCM V7.0.0.1 CF009 (or later) or 7.0.0.2 fix pack" at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21580028

So, we have some questions.

Can CTC3 be installed on version 6.1.5.1 in general? If Yes, can you provide any suggestions on this error.
If NO, is there any possibility to get acquainted with WCM libraries of this CTC3?

Thanks

Configure Ephox EditLive RTE for CTC Portlets
Hi all,
how do I configure the rich text editor to use EditLive (Ephox Editor, OEM or custom licence is fine) for the CTC v3 Portlets? I am not talking about the Authoring Portlet!

In Version 6.x to enable the editor in the Web Content Viewer Portlet - I had to use a portlet parameter (see below) - which does not work for V7

Thank you!

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I am getting a build failure and it was suggested I post my issue here. We are running on RedHat Linux, Portal/WCM version 7.0.0.2 and no previous CTC installed (also a brand new out of the box portal). This is my first attempt at installing the CTC or using the SI (our prod Portal is v6 and sans WCM).

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I've modified the content of the libraries for a demo, and now I want to revert back to the out-of-the-box libraries. Can I just reinstall the package?

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hi,
I am trying to Install CTC v3 on Portal 7.0.0.2 in Cent OS , I have the portal server running up and fine. but I am unable to install the CTC. These are the steps I followed,

1. Downloaded the CTC V3 and Portal Solution Installer from greenhouse.
2. Changed the path in solution installer settings.properties, then went to the install folder for linux, then ran install-solutionInstaller,sh
3 . Then ran the ConfigEngine.sh si-setup
4. Then provided wp_profile path in ctc.properties and ran ctc-install.sh

Note : portal running on default derby database

I am currently facing the following exception,

Does CTC v3 work for Portal 8.0?

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
I had Portal 7.0.0.2 with CF14. After installing CTC, it worked since the portal server was already started. But if I shut down and retstarted the portal server,
both IE and Firefox showed the theme problem - com.ibm.pb is undefined or com.ibm.pb.themes is null or not an object.

This error showed on every page and prevented users to login.

For Sabine - if you are looking to change this across the board - i.e. for all inline authoring with rich text - then you can change this on the authoring portlet that pops up for inline authoring.
This portlet is located on a hidden page in Portal, which can get to through the Administation.
Go to Administration --> Manage Pages --> Content Root --> Hidden Pages, and page through to find the page called "Web Content Management".
Click on the "Edit Layout" button, and then launch the "Edit Shared Settings" dialog for the WCM Authoring Portlet (it's the only portlet on the page).
In the shared settings, you can get to the Rich Text Editor options, and select "Advanced Editor" (which is the OEMed editor), or select a customer editor.
Click Ok, then go back and launch inline authoring - you should see your selection being used now.

For Henry - install CTC3 on both servers, and then set up all of the normal reccomended deployment processes for Portal/WCM isntallation - i.e. syndication for content, XMLAccess for portal artifacts, etc.

For Lana - CTC3 does not support 6.1.5. The supported levels of Portal/WCM are stated in the user guide.

For Darren - I would follow the uninstall instructions, and then re-install. The main concern would be ensuring all of the old libraries were deleted, so you did not have any of the modified assets left in there.

For Shu - CTC3 does not currently work on version 8. A new version of CTC3 will be released for version 8 fairly soon, with a new theme that integrates the 8.0 toolbar.

Max per app time exceeding on install
I was able to install CTC3 on a local Portal 7.0.0.2 environment with no problems. However, when I try to install on the primary node of a single node cluster, I am getting the following error:

It's trying again and again; counting up until it gets to 6 minutes and then finally giving me a BUILD FAILED.

Anybody have any ideas? I've checked and I do have Automatic File Sync turned on for the node agent.

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
Hello CTC 3 Team,

I'm considering to use the CTC 3 in a customer environment. As simple as a website can be created, the concept its still not for customer to use. After the website is created using CTC3 we end up with three things a portal page structure, portlets and site areas incl. belonging content items. So far so good. Now giving it to authors will mean, they start shifting around the website structure replacing the navigation items to other positions. There's where I see the trouble starts. Since CTC 3 is only creating portal pages for the navigation structure, moving can't be done using CTC 3 functionality. The portal administration console has to be used to move portal pages. A task never to be given to authors or departments. After Portal pages have been moved using the portal admin console the portlets may need adjustments as well, also the WCM items like site areas won't reflect anything of the portal page movement. They'll have to be moved within WCM as well to avoid them to go out of sync. Even if we would have a managing author with extended skills, how about staging? What if the authoring environment is not the productive environment, but we only syndicate WCM items there? A deployment of portal pages would be necessary. From my experience content creation of a running website is a highly dynamic process that could not follow this pattern. Maybe I'm getting CTC 3 wrong, but I can only see that this excellent templates could be used by taking functionalities and placing them into a website where required. A task that would belong to an IT department rather to content owners.

Mapping site areas to portal pages makes only sense where applications (other then simple Content pages) are involved, so a deployment is required anyway. As long as WCM items can not be moved with there belonging portal pages by authors, it won't be an approach to follow.

Did I misunderstand something?

Regards
Amier

ok, in Portal 8 moving Portal pages leads to moved WCM Site areas.

Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v8
Regarding the CTC "ifEmpty" plugin, the docs state that "Testing for an empty or non-existent element, or an empty property, is extremely useful conditional rendering capability, and allows the optional rendering of blocks of markup based on what data is available." This indeed is the case and extremely useful and works as stated. However, exceptions are still thrown and logged if the element does not exist or is empty. For example, an HTML component uses the plugin tag as follows:

[Plugin:ifNotEmpty value="[Element context='current' type='content' key='Component-3']"][Element context="current" type="content" key="Component-3"][/Plugin:ifNotEmpty]

If the element exists within the content item but does not have anything stored within the element (i.e. no component selected), an OOB stack trace is logged:

[9/17/12 9:10:23:013 CDT] 00000051 CmpntParamete W Unable to resolve value [Element context='current' type='content' key='Component-3'] for parameter value

    at com.aptrix.pluto.renderer.PlutoRenderService.renderCmpnt(PlutoRenderService.java:310)
...

Similarly, f the element does not exists within the content item, an NPE stack trace is logged.

Since the intent of this usage would expect an exception, can the plugin be updated to swallow any exceptions, perhaps via an additional attribute? While the end result is rendered correctly, it is undesirable to fill up log files with unnecessary (and expected) messages.

Unless I missed something in the package, it appears the provided plugins are binary-only so I am assuming the source is IBM proprietary, thus precluding end-user modifications.

I'm trying to installing CTC3 (actually, I think it's 3.1) on Portal 8 and am having problems. I tried this was Portal CF01 and it didn't work and then upgraded Portal to CF03, removed the parts of CTC that had gotten installed and tried to install again, but got the same error, which is:

Re: Content Template Catalog v3 for IBM Web Content Manager v7
How much of the Content Template Catalog can be used by WCM without Portal? We are building a website based on WCM (using the servlet) and not Portal. I understand that portal pages/portlets/themes won't be available, but what I can use out of CTC to build the site? Thanks

CTC 3.0 crashed Portal Server
Tried installing CTC 3.0 on Portal Server v7.0.0.2. The installation failed but I was able to view the libraries created during the install. Later I tried to restart the portal server, it gave several exceptions in the log with the details "Rebuilding event log for library: .." for all the libraries. I see that the server finally starts but I'm not able to access the portal admin console.

On subsequent re-start attempts I get the following exception in sysout:
0000000f Servlet E com.ibm.wps.engine.Servlet init EJPFD0016E: Initialization of service failed.

Any ideas how I can get the portal admin console up again...

Thanks
