Just keep in mind: The other binder is not yours.
The documents are siblings, indeed, but belong to different activities to which different users have access, that may be in a different status. This is what the LWF security is about.
To securely join the contents of the documents, you have to wait till the binders join.
Yes, there are other possibilities....
In case you use an agent on the server to sync the documents, be aware, that you might create a lot of save conflicts, especially when working with replicas.
